Jim Green

Jim Green was born on August 11, 1949, in Lewistown, Maryland (near the Catoctin Mountains). He got hooked on bluegrass music at the age of six and started playing the guitar at age seven. When Jim was 14, he played the upright bass for The Carroll County Ramblers.

After high school Jim's music was put on hold while he served four years in the Navy. In 1973, while living in San Diego, California, he met Geoff Stelling, who encouraged him to get back into bluegrass. And so he did. He first formed his own bands, The Green Family, who recorded a gospel album, then a bluegrass band, Dixie Road. Jim went on to perform with many west coast musicians including Billy Ray Latham and Byron Berline. He was a member of the band, Bluegrass Etc, and the trio toured Europe in 1994.

In 1996, Jim returned to his hometown in Maryland and joined and recorded for Windy Ridge and Fastest Grass Alive. In 2001 he moved to Rice, Virginia, and joined the bluegrass band, Local Exchange, which evolved into Michelle Nixon and Drive. Later he joined the band, Phoenix. Jim is now happily playing with The Johnathan Dillon Band.

When Jim isn't playing music, he and his wife, Maureen, build houses. His motivation for playing music for over 45 years is the love of music, the fellowship with the band, and meeting the fans.
